Thanks -- this was a very inspring place to shoot, and especially since I happened on it by sheer luck. The other thing -- the light was perfect.

If I showed all the detail, it would be like not seeing the forest because of the trees.

Well, with a lensbaby on an SLR you also have some ability to tilt and shift the lens a bit, making prespective control somewhat possible. In addition, you have instant feedback on what parts are in focus, and you can control that by using different apertures if you want more/less blur. What digital doesn't give you is the spherical aberration which is an important aspect of this lens. I have done blur in PS, but nothing that approaches what you can easily do with this lens.
And, yes, I am having fun with it. I'd love to try some nudes with it sometime.

Thanks for all your fine comments. There is an entire area of Danville - the warehouse district that has these old tobacco warehouses that are now owned by two companies that have invested $$ to fix them up and use for storage and possibly other things. That's the good part. The bad part, that a local photographer told me, is that in the process everything got cleaned up, so the grittier scenes he enjoyed getting are now gone. I was there for only a short time, and would have loved to do some shooting with my Pentax 645, but did not have the time.

Thanks, Elizabeth! I was going to make some big prints from this, and then discovered that there were tiny pinholes in the emulsion. On a small print, they dom't really show up, so I made some 5x5 prints --look really nice (that's what the scan is from). I finally got out themat cutter the other night and started in on a pile of photos. This one looks nice in an 8x8 frame.

Thanks, Mark. The more I do any color work, unless I'm shooting portraits for someone, the more I do it with digital. My camera is a Fuji FinePix S-7000 - 6 mp, and it allows me to use external flashes. Black & W, however, is mostly film, for a lot of reasons, that you are already familiar with, judging from your work.
Thanks for your great comments on this photo!

Ahh, it's a crane fly, family Tipulidae. The larvae are like BIG maggots and live in wet areas such as swamps, wet woods, etc. The adults often have rudimentary mouthparts and mostly feed, when they do, on nectar or sap. You did good...
