Lovely, Hugo!
I like the brightness and the colors of the spinackers in pleasant contrast with the rest of the composition and I like the boats that seem to be floating over the rocks with all the planes compressed thanks to the long focal used.
Very well seen and presented.

Great perspective, just the brightly coloured sails, opened full to the breeze. The sky is just the right shade of offset blue against the the sails. The sharpness is amazing, the rock wall and subdued green grass wonderfully textured contrasts. Cleverly captured and nicely presented.

I like the effect. The three sails are set almost in perfect balance, while the declining horizontal line of the rock wavebraker gives some tension to the image.The low line of water sets the entire environment. I think too that the flat sunlight is important in emphasizing the graphic punch of the sail colors.
The only drawback is relative to the rock pile. Nothnig you could have done to change it though ! But, I imagine the same image with a red sand dune for example...

I love reading your comments as much as viewing your work! This shot immediately appealed to me--as it takes me back to my racing days...or should I say--my boyfriend raced---I went along for the thrills! This shot actually looks like it could have been taken in my town...just off of Rocky Point or Wilson Point....(Connecticut). I love the thrill this shot gives me and hope to one day be back on the water!

Thanks Saeed, very useful comment! On UF, I try to experiment as much as I can, and post as many different triptyches as I can. I feel it helps me evolve "my style". I do feel more comfortable about this type of photography too. (but I'll continue to experiment...;o) Once again, you have been of great help!

Hi Tom, Thanks for yoru comment. Beaufort is a system for measuring the strenght of the wind. 5 Bft equals 16-21 knots (mile/hour) wind (one mile is approx 1.8 km) I discussed the fuzziness yesterday, and there's a tool that calculates the "range of acceptible sharpness". these yachts where about 150m away, and the pier was at 75m. Focussing on the sails, with f11, that gives a DOF ranging roughly form 120 to 170m, hence, the pier is already out of focus... Quite useful tool. I'll send you the URL later.

hugo, excellent perspective! i can almost see the yachts moving away as they jockey for position with each other. great idea. the rocks are a bit fuzzy, tho. i think you're right about the dof. you can see the fuzzyness diminish as you look up the frame. i.e. the top of the rocks are sharper than the bottom. i don't think it was neat image that did it since the sails are sharp. too bad (for you) that it was so windy. i'm sure the racers were very happy about it tho ;^) btw, what does 5 Beaufort translate to in mph or kph? i assume it's a measure of windspeed?

OK Hugo, i bow to your expertise! I was really into windsurfing (almost 20 hours/week, every week all year) and have done a lot of windsurf racing both regatta and short board (slalom). My home town in NZ is Dunedin - the home of Russel Coutts, whom i remember as a small 15-16 year old practising on his Laser, he went on to win Olympic Gold, America's Cup etc and i went on to.......well lets forget that. I also was part of a film crew that made a film on "Lion New Zealand" with the late Peter Blake. So dear friend - like you i do know something about sailing, and the reason the mountain goats won the Cup is simple the bought the best NZ had to offer, much like Swiss TV did with me ;-) Just joking. Thanks for the info, comments and your dedication pic. Have a nice one!

Quite an original image, Hugo. Reminds me of the famous ships that seem to be rolling on the land - while actually hiding behind a dune (hope you know what I mean). The three yachts are perfectly placed here - a tad too perfect, IMHO. It would be more dynamic if they are not that perfect so you can get more dynamics in the picture.
On the other hand, the perfection creates some weird atmosphere. It seems that the yachts are standing still - if that was your intention, forget my words in the first paragraph. Geometrically, it's nice to see that the water front and the stones are trying to catch each other in the right side. this leads the eye very strongly to the right. Not sure if there has to be any object on the right to give the eye some support though ;-)
Would love to see a real blue sky but that's something you just can wish. The colors of the yachts compensate for that =) probably you may desaturate just the grass and stones to create more contrast, but that's a lot of PS rework - and I don't know if you like that.

What a fascinating image this is. My first reaction was a smile, thinking 'just leave it to Hugo to come up with the different view of something'! (Kidding aside) I LOVE this angel because it IS different!
I like the 'layers' to the entire photograph as well as composition. Looks almost 3D.

Hi Neil, you're moving onto dangerous ground here...;o) I feel safe to say I'm more of an expert in sailing than in photography having sailed on a professional level in races for 5 years.... I know your kidding, but still can't believe the mountain goats won the America's cup... Dutch land yachts.... LOL! We shouldn't even have land here! Holland is sinking by a few cm every 10 years...
Hey! You deserved those BIP's. The last two shots where fabulous... Congratulations! A special dedication is attached. It's the boat I sail on during the winter. A one off, built in '79 for Fred Imhoff, according to the ORC rules of the time... Name of the yacht is, don't laugh, "Joker". Close reach course.

Hi Hugo, now you are getting on my territory! As an New Zealander living in Switzerland (the home of the America's Cup) i may know nothing about photography but i do know something about sailing! Where's the water? and where is the bottom part (keel) of the boat?
No seriously, just joking. I like this.... are they dutch land yachts ;-)
The unusual angle and the great lighting make it interesting. A nice image with the 400mm (i have the same one). I can't really fault it except to say show me more - maybe this time with the rest of the boat. ;-)

Hi Zsolt, Thanks for your comment. It was about 5 Beaufort, and with the telezoom at 400, I found it quite difficult to keep the camera steady, even with the monopod. That's why I had to tune it up to 400 ASA, to get the short shutterspeed. I see what you mean by the unsharpness. Could also be the Neat Image thing. First time I tried it... And as the 400 zoom removes the depth, this might also be because of the reduced DOF with the f11, as there is quite some distance between the yachts and the pier. Probably a combination of both.

Ha Gerhard, ik ben het zeker met je eens wat betreft de overbelichte plekken in de zeilen, maar wat betreft contrast en saturatie? Hmmm. Volgens mij is die al behoorlijk sterk, en dat terwijl ik daar zelf ook altijd fan van ben. Ik heb het kleuren profiel van m'n camera een tikkeltje aangepast, zodat dat al meer gesatureerd en meer contrast heeft dan de "default" setting. Ligt misschien aan mijn monitor... Heb weer eens een oudje (maar wel een 21") uit de kast getrokken....;o) 'k Zal morgen eens op m'n werk kijken...

Mooi.. Jammer dat er een paar overbelichte plekjes zijn in de zeilen, maar dat doet weinig af aan de foto. Mischien een tikje meer contrast en saturation. Van de digitale camera's die ik heb gebruikt hebben de meesten dat eigenlijk altijd wel wat nodig. Hoe dan ook, een mooie plaat..
